Chilworth MTB Score Event, Sunday 22nd October 2017

The fourth and final event in the SLOW Mountain Bike Score 2017 Series takes place from Chilworth on Sunday 22nd October. As the series finale, amazing (cough) prizes will be awarded to the top male/female vet/open riders of the year.

Breaking News:

We hope to SIAC contactless dibbers available for hire for the first time at this event, keeping you on your bike for a more seamless ride. We’re keen to get your feedback on whether to make this a regular offering.

The event will be based at  The Percy Arms, Dorking Road, Chilworth GU4 8NP

Toilets are available before and after the event. A carvery lunch is available and prebooking is strongly recommended – when booking, let them know you are with the MTB event. Please leave any muddy shoes at the door.

  • By car, the pub is 10 minutes south of the A3 at Guildford
  • By public transport, the pub is right next to Chilworth Station which is on the line from Redhill with direct connections to central London.

The entry fee is £8 for day riders, £7 for BMBO (with their membership cards) and SLOW members, and £6 for under 21s.

The event will be run under British Mountain Bike Orienteering rules, which competitors are advised to read in advance. BMBO also has some helpful MTB Score tips.

All riders must wear a helmet and carry a whistle and first aid kit (a minimum of plasters & dressing). The following equipment is also recommended:

  • Mobile Phone
  • Waterproof top
  • Compass

There will be series prizes for top male/female/pair and veteran male/female/pair scores, based on the best 3 results of the 4 races over the course of the year.

We have made the difficult decision to cancel this event due to an unexpected conflict arising from the late change in planner/location. We encourage anyone interested in this event to check out the Midlands MBO event being held in Princes Risborough on the same day.

MTB Score Series 2017

We’re pleased to bring back a third MTB-Score series with four brand new locations for 2017. Held on Sunday mornings in February, May, August and October, these are 2-hour score orienteering events on bike. These events are run by London & Southeast Adventure Racers in affiliation with SLOW.

Events take place on Sunday mornings in February, May, August and October. Start times are from 10:00 to 11:00 and the course closes at 13:00.

Series prizes will be presented to the top 3 finishers in the following categories:

Male Veteran (40+), Male Open, Female Veteran (40+), Female Open, Junior (<16)

Series rankings are based on your top 3 scores of the 4 events. To be eligible for prizes, participants must have attended at least 2 events.

Mogador MTB Score Event, Sunday 14th August 2016

The third event in the SLOW Mountain Bike Score 2016 Series takes place from Mogador on Sunday 14th August.

Event Centre

The event will be based at  The Sportsman, Mogador Road, Tadworth, KT20 7ES (near M25 Jn 8)

Toilets are available before and after the event, and lunch is available from 12pm –  please leave any muddy shoes at the door. The pub gets very busy on Sundays so please book in advance if you wish to eat in the restaurant. Bar snacks are also available and there is a large garden.

The present building was originally built as a hunting lodge for Henry VIII in 1532. The pub is located next to Banstead / Walton Heath, and is ideal for walking (for those who don’t wish to cycle).

Getting there

  • By car, the pub is 1.5 km from the A217 and 1.5km from the M25 Jn 8
  • NOTE – No event parking is permitted  in the pub car park, and there is limited parking available in Mogador / Lower Kingswood. Please park at Margery Woods NT Car Park – first turning on the left off the A217, when approaching from the M25 junction. Parking is free for National Trust members and £4 for others (using Ringo).  Access to the pub is via a Bridleway which runs along the side of the car-park (follow the signs).
  • By train, Tadworth and Kingswood stations are both an easy 15 minute  warm up ride away. The A217 is a busy dual carriageway with no cycle path. The bridleways  across Banstead Heath provide a safer and more direct route.
