Compass Sport Cup

The final team results for Sunday’s Compass Sport Cup match have now been confirmed. We pulled out a great effort to finish 2nd to Southdowns out of ten clubs (and only 75 points down out of over 2000!) – and as two clubs qualify for the national final from the South East round, this means we’re ‘going to Wembley’!

Well done especially to course winners Ed, Heather, Mike and Ralph. Pete says this is the first time we’ve qualified for the national final since 2000 (when we finished third), so this is a top achievement. Thanks to everyone who ran – particularly those who made a special effort to turn out – and even if you didn’t count for our points total, you’ll see from the score sheet that you still contributed by reducing the scores of our rivals!

All the details are now on the Mole Valley website (www.mvoc.org). Southdowns scored 2288 points, we got 2213, and Happy Herts were third with 2101. Andy R has pointed out that if we’d only needed 20 or less runners, we’d have won, but from 21 upwards we are behind Southdowns. This means that for the final (in Lancashire on October 16th), a few improved performances from those in middle range of the results could make a very big difference to our overall result. So put it in your diaries and remember that there’s plenty of time for us all to get a bit fitter (starting this weekend!) and make an impression.
