The third race of the 2014 London Park Orienteering Series takes place around the campus of Imperial College. Competitors will have to navigate around the complex campus environment, tranquil gardens and even the iconic Royal Albert Hall. The race is part of the London Park Race Series 2014 which is organised by the London orienteering clubs. Like all races in the series, the race is suitable for beginners. Electronic timing will be used.

The courses cross several busy roads, so it is a condition of our insurance that under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Full leg cover is not necessary; running in a T-shirt, shorts and trainers will be fine.

Registration will be at Imperial College’s Ethos Sports Centre, which is just a few minutes from South Kensington station. The Apres-O will take place in Eastside Bar, 100 yards from the event centre. If you finish early, why not grab a pint and watch everyone else finish their run!

Courses

Course name Straight line Typical actual running
Long 3.3km 5.0km
Short 2.5km 3.5km

Please note that the courses cross busy roads. For insurance reasons, those under 16 years old will have to run with an accompanying adult. Those over 16 should apply common sense and give way to traffic and other pedestrians (and especially stressed-out students who are revising for exams…).

Event Centre

Registration is at the Ethos sports centre, and the registration desk will be signed from the main entrance. Imperial College are very kindly letting orienteers use the changing rooms at Ethos free of charge.

Ethos is on the north side of Princes Gardens, the start and finish are in Princes Gardens itself, and the Apres-O is in Eastside bar (unsurprisingly on the east side of Princes Gardens). Eastside serves a wide range of food and drinks at very reasonable prices.
