Richmond Park Night-O, 31 October

The first race of South London Orienteers’ five event 2017-18 Night-O Series takes place in Richmond Park, south-west London, on Tuesday 31 October 2017. The race centre will be The Albert on Kingston Hill near the Kingston gate.

The Night-O series is a public race – all are welcome. Please RSVP to the event via Facebook (link above) to let us know you are coming – you can also see who else is coming and post questions. If you are not on Facebook, please let the organiser Sue Carter know you are coming (details below) so that the correct number of maps are printed.

Race centre

The race will be based at The Albert on Kingston Hill, 57 Kingston Hill, Norbiton KT2 7PX. The pub serves great food and drink, and there will be the usual opportunity to revisit route choices with other runners.

Getting there

The Albert is a 5 minute walk from Norbiton station. Come out of main exit to the north, cross the road and head down Wolverton Avenue. At the end turn right and the pub is on the left. Trains from Waterloo to Norbiton leave every 15 minutes and direct ones take 25 minutes.

Race Details

The entry fee is £3 for SLOW members, students and juniors; £5 for others. The race will use SIAC contactless punching with SIAC cards available for free for those who do not have their own. A small number of headlamps are also available to borrow free of charge but you need to e-mail the organiser in advance to reserve one.

Richmond Park is the largest and possibly the best orienteering area inside the M25, and was fully re-mapped this year. The following courses will be available:

  • Long: approximately 5km, quite challenging
  • Short: approximately 2.5km, quite challenging

All competitors take part at their own risk. You MUST be over 16 to take part in this event, unless you are accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is a condition of our insurance.

Results will be available on the SLOW website shortly after the event.
