South-East Night Championships, 30 November 2013

South London Orienteers is staging the The South-East Night Championships on Esher Common on Saturday 30 November 2013. The race centre will be the Fairmile on the Portsmouth Road, Cobham.

Race centre

Parking is at the Fairmile, Portsmouth Road, Cobham. There should be plenty of room for everyone to park on hard-standing. Registration and download will be inside in a nice, warm bar and medals will be presented there afterwards, at about 7:30pm.

There will be a walk of about 800m to the finish where clothing can be left in a tent. The start is a further 600m. Allow up to 20 minutes.

Race Details

Esher Common is fast, undulating woodland with some open areas and also areas of intricate contours. The area was newly mapped in 2012 when surveyed and drawn by Roger Maher. Appropriate updates will have been made for this race. The scale will probably be 1:10,000, although it might fit at 1:7,500. Overprinted and waterproof.

There will be three championship courses and a beginner/novice course (all course lengths are provisional):

  • Course 1: M20-40, M45/50 (5.9km)
  • Course 2: M18, M55/60, W20-40, W45/50 (4.6km)
  • Course 3: M16, M65+, W16, W18, W55/60, W65+ (3.3km)
  • Beginner: ochre (night yellow) (2.2km)

Medals will be awarded to the first three SEOA runners in each of the above categories, e.g. Course 1 will have a total of six medals. Results will be available on the SLOW website shortly after the event.
