Putney Heath – loop race

Tuesday 3 June 2008

The next summer evening event will be on Tuesday 3rd June at Putney Heath.  It'll be a very exciting loop race with mass start at 7.30. We hope to see you all there - for more details please see the info below.

Please email m_mahr@yahoo.com by Sunday 1st June if you’re intending to come, so we can prepare enough maps. EOD will be available but limited!

Abi and Matthias

Where? Registration, start and finish are next to the Telegraph Pub on Telegraph Road, Putney Heath, SW15 3TU – map link here.  There’s plenty of free parking locally.

When? Tuesday 3rd June. Registration is at 7:00pm, with a mass start for all at 7:30pm.

What race? The event will be a loop race with 3 loops of 1.6k each, so about 5k in total. You will be given a set order in which to complete the loops, coming back to the finish each time. So not everyone will do the loops in the same order, but everyone will have done the same legs in the end.

While there is no beginners’ course as such, the area does have lots of paths and open areas so is beginner friendly. You can always start with one loop and see how far you get. Advice will be available on the night should you need it.

We’ll be using traditional pin punching so no need to bring your dibbers.

What area? We’ll be using the brand new map of Putney Heath (north of the A3 only). While the area is not overly technical as such, there should be plenty of technical challenge due to the abundance of small paths, vegetation changes and water features. Plus it’s a mass start so you’re bound to be sprinting off in the wrong direction!

How much does it cost? The race will be free to enter.

What after? The Telegraph Inn sells food & drink!

This event is part of the London Tuesday evening summer orienteering series.
