Orienteers at this Future Champions Cup Final weekend will be competing for:

The Future Champions Cup,
awarded to the winners of the Men’s and Women’s classes of the National Final and
The Future Champions Series Trophies,
awarded to the winners of each of the 4 age classes .

The organising clubs, LOK and SLOW, wish you a successful and enjoyable weekend.

INFORMATION FOR BOTH DAYS
(Please read these details carefully.)

This area is popular with horse riders and other members of the public – please treat them all with courtesy in the car parks and in the competition areas. No dogs at the event please.

The event will be run under the rules of the British Orienteering Federation.

To ensure the fairness of the Future Champions Cup competition, competitors and spectators are requested NOT to take old maps of the terrain to the car park, start or finish areas. Anyone disregarding this will be liable to disqualification.

Safety:

All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

First Aid:

There will be First Aid boxes located at Registration. Directions to the local A&E hospital at Guildford will be on display and available from Registration.

Clothing:

Full body cover must be worn. Whistles are compulsory on Day 1 and recommended on Day 2.

Car Parking and Assembly:

Parking is in public car parks, but is limited so please share transport wherever possible. Enquiries, Registration, Results display and toilets will be located in the car parks. No traders at the event.

Out of Bounds:

A number of out of bounds areas will be marked on competition maps. Anyone found in these areas will be disqualified and could jeopardise future land access. Courses have been planned to avoid the out of bounds areas.

Electronic punching:

All courses will use Sportident electronic punching. Please check the details shown on the start list and contact Anne Leaney immediately if there are any errors. Those hiring a SI card will be able to collect them from the Registration desk on Day 1 on payment of £1 charge for the weekend. It is essential that a competitor runs only with the SI card which has been registered to them. Hired SI cards should be returned after the day 2 race. There will be a charge of £14 for lost or non-returned SI cards.

Bib Numbers:

All competitors must wear a race number that will be allocated according to the start order each day. Day 1 bibs can be collected from Registration and should be returned after the Short race.

Race numbers will be reallocated for Day 2 according to Day 1 results and can be collected from Registration on Day 2 from 9.30am

Start Procedure:

Call up will be at –3 minutes where your SI card number and bib number will be checked against the Start List and your card checked to make sure that it is clear. Loose control descriptions will be available at –2 minutes. Maps showing any "late changes" will be displayed at –2 minutes. A conventional timed start will be in operation. Maps will be in clearly labelled boxes.

Control Sites:

All control sites will be marked with a conventional "kite". The SI unit will be mounted on top of the control stand with the 3 digit control code mounted vertically.

Finish and SI Download:

A "Punching Finish" will be in operation. You must ensure that you "punch" at the finish control. Once you have finished, please proceed to the download station. Split times will be available as soon as possible following downloading. On Day 2 hired SI cards must be returned at this point.

Map collection:

Maps will be collected at the finish and returned following the last starts each day.

Start times for Day 1:

Start times are between 13.30 and 14.30 - Start List.

Start times for Day 2:

Start times for Day 2 will be from 10.30am with the fastest runners from day 1 off last. Start times will be displayed on the Information Board as soon as possible following the last finisher on Day 1.

Results:

Results will be displayed in the Car Park/Assembly areas on both days. They will be on this website as soon as possible following the event. We are hoping to publish full split times in the summer edition of RC5.

Complaints:

BOF Rule 11 applies. Any complaint, orally or in writing, must be made to the Day Organiser, who can be contacted via Enquiries. The Day Organiser will respond with a decision as soon as practicable. Any protest against that decision should be made in writing accompanied by a £5 fee. The Day Controller will if necessary convene a Jury. The fee is returnable if the protest is considered valid.

Prize-giving:

Prize giving for the Future Champions Cup, Series and Team Trophies will be in the Day 2 car park around 13.30.

DAY 1 - SATURDAY 6th MAY, HOLMBURY HILL
SHORT RACE FINAL

Directions:

Car parking at Grid reference TQ098432, Landranger 187. Signed from junction of A25 at Gomshall 9 km west of Dorking (TQ083480).

Terrain:

Undulating forested land which is generally fast and runnable, with some areas of recent forestry work and brashings. Some small paths created by mountain bikers are not mapped.

Map:

1:10,000 with 5m contours, surveyed and drawn for JK 99 by Robin Thomas to IOF specifications. All maps will be sealed in polythene bags. A legend is not printed on the map.

Course Details:

Men 5.0km 150m climb 20 controls
Women 4.2km 125m climb 16 controls

Control descriptions:

These will be attached to the front of the map. All courses will have pictorial (international) descriptions. Loose copies will be available at the start following call up. Dimensions of control descriptions are as follows:

Men 6.5cm wide 18.5cm long
Women 6.5cm wide 15.5cm long

Assembly:

Tents can be erected close to the finish, please check at Enquiries for the exact location. The Finish is located close to the car park.

Start:

There is one start for both courses approximately 1km with 25m of climb (15 mins walk) from the car park/assembly area. The route to the start leaves from the south-eastern corner of the car park and passes close to the finish. A "Clear Station" for SI cards will be located at the pre-start.

Warm-up:

The route to the start may be used for warming-up. Please do not leave the track as the walk to the start passes between some of the OOB areas. There will also be a marked warm-up area close to the start. All surrounding forest is out of bounds. There will be no clothing transfer.

Course Drinks:

There are no refreshment controls or drinks during any courses. Orange squash and water will be available close to the finish.

Spectator Control:

A common spectator control on both courses is located at approximately 75% and 80% distance. This is close to the northern edge of the car park and competitors will be visible for approx 300m after this control as they follow a taped route to avoid a late advised environmentally sensitive area. Please take care not to enter the forest surrounding the spectator control, to interfere with the race or to impede the progress of competitors.

DAY 2 - SUNDAY 7th MAY, WINTERFOLD
CLASSIC FINAL

Directions:

Car parking at Grid reference TQ059428, Landranger 187. Signed from junction of the A25 and A248 (Silent Pool) 11 km west of Dorking (TQ061483).

PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH THROUGH SHERE VILLAGE.

ALL runners are requested to have arrived at the car park before 10.15am.

Terrain:

The area consists of well contoured runnable coniferous and deciduous woodland with a steep south facing slope. Areas of the deciduous woodland have bilberry ground cover. Bracken should not affect runnability. There are some small paths created by mountain bikers which are not mapped.

Map:

1:15,000 with 5m contours, surveyed and drawn for JK 99 by Robin Thomas to IOF specifications. All maps will be sealed in polythene bags. A legend is shown on the map.

Course Details:

Men * 10.1km 330m climb 25 controls
Women 6.8km 200m climb 19 controls

Men 6.5cm wide 18.0cm long

Registration:

Runners should collect their Day 2 race number bibs from Registration from 9.30am.

Start / Finish:

There is one start for both courses approximately 150m from the car park. The route to the start leaves from the north-east corner of the car park. A ‘Clear Station’ for SI cards will be located at the pre-start. The Finish is adjacent to the Car Park.

Danger area:

An area of recent felling is marked on the map with the IOF ‘Dangerous area’ symbol of cross-hatching. You are advised not to plan to cross this area as work maybe taking place during the event.

Road Crossings:

Both courses cross the minor roads in the area several times, these roads either have very poor visibility or fast moving traffic. There are no compulsory crossing points and the road crossings will not be manned. Remember that you are responsible for ensuring that you cross all roads safely.

Warm-up:

A warm-up area will be provided adjacent to the start. Do not cross any tapes.

Course Drinks:

A drink control will be sited at approx. 60% distance on the men’s course and at approx. 45% distance on the women’s.
