Wimbledon Common: Clock Relay Pairs
Orienteering training event 30th April 2002

Many thanks to Alan and Andy for setting up an excellent training event; I have tried to calculate the results of the teams and it is quite interesting to see where people actually went... what were you doing!

The rules of the game:
Teams of 2 take turns to navigate around a pre-determined course of controls.
Each leg takes in a variable number of controls taken from a selection of 12 controls placed around a circle as if on a clock face;
To make things extra confusing the control numbers on the SI units are written in roman numerals and the maps don't have any numbers on at all!
Finally no kites are used to make them difficult to see!

Since I haven't got a record of all the courses I haven't determined if the teams actually punched correctly; you can do this yourself by comparing the pattern of runs with the team splits on the linked pages. Also it was impossible to determine the special legs which involved going 'around the monument (and anyway these couldn't be validated) so these are not shown on the diagrams.

Also, I didn't write down who was using which of the SI hire cards so these people are listed as Anon but if you can remember who you were running with then we can fill in the gaps later.

Results and Splits (Teams are numbered in start order; not map number):

Alpha (name) Alpha SI# Beta SI# Beta (name) Follow to... Elapsed Rank
Team 1 Anon1 300239 300233 Alan Leaky Splits 41:03 5
Team 2 Christine Robinson 33297 39975 Andy Robinson Splits 38:37 4
Team 3 Anon2 300231 32872 Mike Elliott Splits 33:42 2
Team 4 Andy Morrison 401775 2000 Gavin Andrews Splits 31:36 1
Team 5 Anon3 300221 37276 Virginia Catmur Splits 35:33 3

Regards,
Gavin

PS
I think if you look closely only teams 2 and 4 correctly punched!
And finally when we do it again we should have a punch at the handover so each final leg and first leg split can be calculated for each runner.
