ORGANISER’S REPORT

Well I thoroughly enjoyed a very pleasant evening – so I hope you did too. A huge entry on the night didn’t fit too well with the late setting-up of registration, but the races set off only a bit late, and then as we did make these the easiest courses yet on Wimbledon, we were saved all the worries about lost runners as you all made it back in a reasonable time.

Thanks go to:

Gavin on the computer

Mark who planned the courses and organized the forest team of Keira, Rachael and Paul.

The two Chrises on registration.

Having released Ed Catmur from forest team duties, the former British Squad member then ran away from the field to claim a bottle of wine. Second place was taken by Drazen Perkovic, one of the two Croatians in the race. They were here on holiday and had e-mailed me in advance asking "I did not quite understand, what is the type of this competition? Is it something between orienteering and running?" Yep!! - that's about right.

In the 6km, Mike Elliot was back from his hols to repeat his win of race 1. Chris Robinson was also re-juvenated after holidays and turned the tables on those who’d beaten her before to take the ladies prize. Close behind at the back of the leading pack was a fine performance from 14 year-old Alex Robinson. And “slightly” further back the Epsom and Ewell ladies did get round.

The overall series awards were as follows.

10km

Men – Paul Whiston

Ladies – Sue Ashley

Veterans – Colin Gray

6km

Ladies – Sarah Covey-Crump

Lady vets – Chris Robinson

Super-vets – Steve Brockbank

Super-duper-vets (60+) – Maurice Dunnett

Finally, a look forward to what’s coming up.

This Sunday at Norbury Park (just the other side of Leatherhead), Mole Valley are staging the last “Frolic” – that’s the London Summer League and consists of courses for beginners and novices.

Next Tuesday Croydon hold a score event at Happy Valley (over Croydon way).
