                Ed Catmur (SLOW and Oxford University) wins OK Nuts Trophy

                        by 4 seconds in an exciting race on the A course.  Ed is on the

right with the second and third place runners, Kenny Leitch

Event:         SLOW AGM – Tuesday 25^th November 2003

                A final reminder for the AGM, this Tuesday at the Hawker Centre.

Option of a run beforehand at 7 p.m.  Changing and showers available.

AGM starts at 8 p.m.  There is a bar, and a food menu, which makes

this our best ever AGM venue. Please come, improve their takings and

make it a really worthwhile evening.

Yvette Baker Trophy

 

We did it!  SLOW Juniors have won a place in the Yvette Baker Trophy National Final (a national junior inter-club competition) turning the tables on rivals, Southdowns Orienteers, in the Regional Heat.  The winning margin was close, 893 to 887, with Guildford not far behind with 877 points. 

 

Individual course winners for SLOW were Ralph Street, Ali McKerrow and Chris Wroe.   There were second places for James McMillan, Michael May, Charles McMillan, Alex Robinson and Anna Steinitz, with Katherine Skingsley in third place completing the scoring team. 

 

Congratulations to everybody who took part - even those who did not score helped the team effort by providing great back-up.  A particular mention to Greg Street whose excellent performance on yellow just behind Alex Robinson meant we were safe to run Charles McMillan up on the orange which in turn got us valuable 2^nd place points.  It was also great to see several more young SLOW juniors on the yellow and white having a go – a good sign for the future.

News:  Congratulations to Heather Monro of SLOW on her

excellent performances in the World Orienteering

Championships in Switzerland in early August.  She

finished 10th in the Middle race and 14th in the Long,

before having a storming run on the relay anchor leg

(3rd fastest) to bring GB up into 6th place.  SLOW

also sends congratulations to Jamie Stevenson who

won the World Orienteering Men's Sprint title by a

cool 19 seconds.

 

In July Heather became the first non-Scandinavian 

to win the Super-Elite class at the O-Ringen,

Sweden's premier orienteering event.   Lying in third

place overall after the first four days, she started

the final day, in a chasing start, over 4 minutes down

on the leader.  Surprising even herself, she overtook

the two earlier starters to win by over a minute.

 

Congratulations to James Haynes who had an outstanding victory in M10A at the

Scottish 6-Day event in Moray.  Nearly 50 SLOW members enjoyed an excellent

week's holiday with good terrain and lovely weather.
