Micr-O race – Esher Common (Longy Down)

Tuesday 14 August 2007

South London Orienteers present the final event of the summer programme.

Using the acclaimed Jon Musgrave “micrO” map of the central part of Esher Common.

Parking
(1) (preferably) Sandy Lane (TQ139616)  Map link here
(2) (if you must) west side of A244 (TQ140626).  Although a lot more convenient, this involves walking through competition area and the car park is too small for all of you.

Start
From (1) head north to cross A3 at footbridge (TQ135621) and then turn right.
From (2) head west, then south-west before a hill.  The start is just north of fence bordering A3, and we won’t be putting up any tapes to get you there.

Time
Sunset is before 8.30 – so we will have to be quick.  The controls should be out ready for starters by 7.00. Arrivals after 7.45 will not be popular. Volunteers needed to collect controls before 8.15.

Course
Just the one and it’s only 2.5km, BUT…

We’re not showing any control codes and there will be other controls out there in very near and very similar features. As we expect loads of mis-punching, nobody will get DQ’d, but the following penalties will apply:

·        Punching a wrong control near to a correct one (even if you also punch the correct one) – one minute added

·        Not punching any control near a correct one – two minutes added

Fees
None.
We’re using a course from an old event and so its the end of summer freebie. (but note that maps may have to be reclaimed and re-used)
