Explanation of Event Types

  • Score – visit as many checkpoints as possible in a set time, 30-60 minutes.
  • Trail Challenge/Race – mass start race run over tracks and trails.  Course lengths: 6km and 10km.  The navigation is very straightforward and the challenge arises from choosing the fastest route between the checkpoints.  It is best to pre-enter for these.
  • Medium Race – estimated winning time of 20-30 minutes.
  • Frolic – includes various lengths of courses, with series team handicap competition.
  • Loop race – mass start race with a number of different ‘loops’ which people run in a different order, so that everyone runs the same in total by the end
  • Mobile-O – pairs orienteering – one person at base has the map and has to describe it to the runner by phone, then swap over.
