Street-O event – Surbiton

Tuesday 10 March 2009

The next street orienteering event will be held in Surbiton on Tuesday 10th March.  Full details are set out below.

Registration, start and finish location – YMCA Surbiton Centre, 49 Victoria Road, Surbiton, KT6 4NG.  Map link here

Start times – turn up to start any time between 6.45 - 8.00pm.

Transport – the YMCA Centre is situated just a few minutes walk from Surbiton station. (Regular trains run to Surbiton from Waterloo and Clapham Junction – about 15 minutes on the fast trains.)  Come out of the main station entrance (turn left at the top of the stairs once you’ve come off the platforms) and then turn left out of the station and walk 300 metres down the high street.  The YMCA is on your left just before the junction with Brighton Road.

Parking – there is very little parking on Victoria Road or Brighton Road, but free parking is available on many nearby residential roads from 6.30pm onwards – check parking exclusion signs to double check.

Race format – usual 60-minute format.  Maps will be printed on waterproof paper.  Don't forget to bring a pen to write down your answers to the “clues” as you go around, and a watch.  Fluorescent clothing is recommended for safety.  All clues should be visible under street lights (but you might find it helpful to have a small torch).

Cost – £1

Changing/showers – we have been allocated a couple of large rooms for changing (although not the gym changing rooms), where bags can be left while you run.  There will be two showers available.

Food/drink: The YMCA restaurant will be serving food from 8.00 – 9.30 pm, put on especially for us – please support them.  They are offering a bolognese pasta bake and a vegetarian pasta bake, plus a selection of salad, for a cost of £4.95 per head.  Additionally, the bar will be open from 7.30 – 10.30 pm.

To assist with predicting numbers for map printing and food, please email Paul Nixon – paulnixon79 @ yahoo.com – if you intend coming (or if you have any other queries).
