Sorry for the delay in getting these up – had a few problems with
the website in the last week as you might have noticed. Should be all back up and running now! See the organiser’s comments below

Counting first runs only the champions are Simon E, Peter and Neil with Simon
being the overall fastest. These three had 100% records all evening as did
Mike, Chris R and John W. Neil was the only one of these to do all 3 courses,
but I’m sure all the others would have achieved that but for late arrivals and
helping on the start.
As for the majority (75%) of you – well, three more clean runs were
achieved between you, but then things tailed off rather. I overheard a few
remarks about compass bearings, but I think those people were missing the
point; in my opinion it’s all in the map reading.
And what about the map? I thought it was absolutely
brilliant and that’s what made it all possible. That’s the conclusion I came to
when I went out taping sites last week.
For further proof check out Graham Gristwood’s website where he details the training he
did on this map in preparation for last week’s World Champs sprint race where
he finished an excellent 9th.
So look for further uses of this map – perhaps a Southern Express
in early springtime (yes you can get a 4.5km course on it), and maybe another
micro next August (say the Tuesday after the Scottish 6 day) with different
courses and perhaps a few different control sites.

PS a few more stats:
Cluster 1 20 errors (I
thought this would be the hardest)
Cluster 2 9 errors (and
this the easiest)
Cluster 3 20 errors
Cluster 4 12 errors
Cluster 5 16 errors
Course X – 63.5% successful
punches
Course Y – 76.5% successful punches
Course Z – 65.3% successful punches
So it looks like my planning wasn’t as testing as David May’s
