Bow Street-O Race
Event Details
Tuesday 8 September 2009
The first SLOW street orienteering event of the 2009-10 series will be held in Bow on Tuesday 8 September.
Registration, start and finish location
-
The Royal Inn on the Park, 111 Lauriston Road, London E9 7HJ. The
Map Room has been reserved for us.
Start times - turn up to start any time between 6:15pm and 7:30pm. Note: The gates to Victoria Park start to get locked from 8pm onwards.
This may restrict your route choice when returning to the pub at the end of your race, although no controls will be in the park itself. Therefore, it is recommended
that you start by 7pm.
Transport - Tube to Mile End (District and Central lines) then 277 or 425 bus north, or walk up Grove Road (20 minutes). Alternatively, if travelling from Richmond, the London Overground runs directly to Homerton, then walk south.
Parking - on-street parking in Victoria Park Village (just north of the pub) and surrounding streets.
Race format - the normal Street-O format - you have 60 minutes to visit as many controls as possible, in any order, and return to the pub.
Points vary from 10 to 50 per control. There is a 1 point penalty for every 3 seconds late back after your hour.
Don't forget to bring a watch (essential!) and a pen to write down your answers to the "clues" as you go around. All streets are lit so clues should
be visible, but you might find it helpful to have a small torch.
Safety - be careful when crossing any busy roads. You may wish to wear fluorescent clothing.
There is one out-of-bounds road, the A12 (former motorway!) Under no circumstances should you attempt to cross it except by bridges or tunnels.
Map - new map, Street-O format, A4, specially drawn for this race. Will be printed on waterproof paper.
Cost - £1, to cover the cost of printing the waterproof maps.
Changing - In the reserved room or pub toilets.
Food - the pub serves food until 10pm.
