|This event is on Facebook. Say you are coming here!|
Race 5 of the 2012 London Park Orienteering Series takes place in the campus of Roehampton University, in SW London.
The race is part of the London Park Race Series 2012 which is organised by the London orienteering clubs. Like all races in the series, the race is suitable for beginners. Running in a T-shirt and trainers will be fine. Electronic timing will be used.
|Address||Roehampton University, Roehampton Lane|
|OS grid reference||TQ221743|
|Maps||Google Maps, OpenStreetMap|
|Registration||Between 1815 and 1915|
|Start Times||Between 1830 and 1930|
- 2.7 km with 29 controls*
* Course distance is a straight-line distance – the actual distance covered by runners will be considerably more due to the built-up/campus nature of the area. The organiser writes “There are a few small patches of nettles, but I have been around this afternoon and trampled some strategic bits flat, so shorts should be okay unless you’re really paranoid about getting stung.”
Please note that, unlike for the other events in the series, there will be only a single course available.
Entry on the day only. Your entry fee includes a full colour map printed on waterproof paper, which you can keep as a souvenir after your run, and a printout of your race time and splits at the end of the race.
|Current members of SLOW, LOK, MV or DFOK||All others|
If you do not have your own SI card, then you can hire one for the event at no charge. A penalty of £30 will be charged for hired SI cards that are lost or not returned, and such cards will be blacklisted.
To avoid passing through the competition area, competitors arriving on foot should enter the campus via the Froebel Gate off Roehampton Lane, just north of the junction with Clarence Lane (map), and follow tapes/orienteering signs to registration.
The nearest rail station is Barnes, 1.4km to the north of the gate.
There will be space for a few cars on the campus.
Cars should enter the campus at the Froebel Gate off Roehampton Lane just north of the junction with Clarence Lane (map). Drivers should call in at Grove House (the white building on the right about 100m after coming through the gate) for a pass.
P9, P10 and an unmarked area to the east of P9 on this campus map should be the best places to park. Registration is in the Union Bar, on the north side of building 22 on this map.
Registration, Bags & Changing Facilities
Registration will be in the Union Bar on the Roehampton University campus.
Apologies for the lack of refreshments on campus – we were only told on Friday that these would not be available as term has now ended.
The designated post-race pub is the Captain Cook, 408 Upper Richmond Road, SW15 6JP (map). There will be a space reserved for us, and food will be available until 9pm, and possibly a bit later. We will attempt to offer a car shuttle service from the campus to the pub for those without their own transport.

Competitors take part in this race at their own risk. Entries and results will be processed by computer, your entry will be taken as agreement to this. The competition is run under the rules and guidelines of, and sanctioned by, British Orienteering.
