Disappointing competitor behaviour

The first words of the Planner’s Notes about the race area were

Be nice to others!

He continued:
Be polite to people walking. Be aware that what seems like a friendly call from you to warn of your approach can seem like an aggressive yell to others.

On several courses valid routes took competitors through Leadenhall Market, a Victorian era pair of covered streets. Unfortunately there was a street Craft Fair in place there that we had not been made aware of in advance, and was not present when controls were put out earlier in the morning. The Fair caused significant pedestrian congestion.

Despite this a large number of competitors chose to run aggressively through the area rather than slow down, and almost inevitably there were collisions with pedestrians plus at least one highly concerned dog owner. I am sure that there were more cases than we have been made aware of. We are still trying to address the harm caused by these selfish actions and currently we feel that our ability to return to the City of London for this event is hanging by a thread. You know who you are, if the event is not allowed back then be very aware that it is your fault.

We also had a case of one individual swearing at a marshal on the course as well as at the Download team. The unexpected nature of this meant that we were unprepared to note his number – if we had then he would have been disqualified. So, to the senior man wearing a Bryzos camouflage O top and with tattoos on one arm – If you dislike the event that much then please don’t come again.

Voiding of legs

Access issues with the (Grade II listed) Golden Lane Estate, to the North of the Barbican, unfortunately affected some of the later starters. As a result, all legs into, within and out of the estate (controls 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 158) have been removed from the results whenever a runner on that course was affected.

The Wheelchair Accessible course, and course 12 (children) did not visit the Estate.

Courses 1, 3, 4,, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 13 visited this area and runners were affected. On these courses the legs involved have been voided. Runners on these courses will see their finish time in the final results is shorter than the time shown on the splits printout from download.

Courses 2, 9 and 10 also visited those controls but no runners were affected by the issue so no legs have been voided.
