Race Centre & Getting There

This race centre is The Gregorian pub, at 96 Jamaica Road SE16 4SQ. This is only 200m west of Bermondsey tube on the Jubilee Line (turn west from the station and it’s just by the church). There’s the usual opportunity to meet and chat with other runners about orienteering. Bags can be left while you run (at your own risk).

Series Prize Giving

As this is the last race in the series, we will be holding a prize giving for the Top 3 Men and Women (5 races to count). There may also be further spot prizes on the day.

Race Details

Start Times: 18:00 – 19:30

Courses close 20:30 – you must return to the pub by this time, even if you have not completed the course.

Two courses are offered:

  • Long: approximately 5km (straight line) – this ventures into the surrounding streets and while these are very quiet, there is some traffic so it is not suitable for under-16s. Note there are NO timed out road crossings this time.
  • Short: approximately 2.5km (straight line) – this stays entirely within the park and is suitable for all.
  • Shorts will be fine for either course.

The start and finish are around 600m (5-10 minutes’ walk) from the pub. Take care crossing roads en route.

Entries

The entry fee is £6 for British Orienteering members, students and juniors; £8 for others. The races use both SIAC contactless and SI electronic punching; SIAC cards are available to hire for those who do not have their own for £2.

We decide how many maps to print a week before the race, and this then limits the numbers of entries we can accept. If we reach the limit we will close entries and update this web post (this happened for our recent race in Battersea Park).

Entries now open

Entries, including on the day, are online only. Entries will stay open until 19:25 on the day of the event subject to map availability.

Results will be available on the SLOW website shortly after the event.

Notes

This is just a park race, a chance to run with a map in a beautiful place and meet other orienteers before and after. Please make your safety and being considerate to others your priority. Take special care in the urban areas. And please do not cross “uncrossable” map features or areas, such as walls, fences, gates that are mapped as closed, flower beds and out-of-bounds..

On most evenings the parks are enjoyed by many people, so expect cyclists, other runners, dog walkers, picnicers and pedestrians. Please give way to them or run around!

All competitors take part at their own risk.

Helping on the night & contact

This event can’t happen without volunteer effort on the night. If you can lend a hand on the start, or with collecting controls, it is greatly appreciated – please get in touch with Abi on . Everyone who helps will be able to run.
