Sheen Common Night-O Results
Routegadget – draw your route!
Thank you all for coming to the 4th and final race of the Night-O season. I hope you all enjoyed the return to Sheen Common after 18 years – while the area is pretty green overall, a lot of it is actually quite pleasant and in any case the many, many small paths make it tricky enough for orienteering, particularly at night.
Night-O planning is a tricky balance between making it long enough for experienced orienteers but not too long for relative newcomers. Perhaps the course was a little on the long side this time; while the winning time was exactly the 30 minutes I’d expected, the median time was in the 50s – but nobody was complaining afterwards so I’m hoping you all had fun. The perfect weather and a great base at the pub certainly helped.
Thank you to Don for the map, and to Oliver, Pete, Jason, Duncan, Claudia, Tobi and Abi for helping on the night. I didn’t have to scurry for helpers and it was all very smooth on the night which was a definite bonus. Thanks also to the Friends of Sheen Common, Will at Barnes Common and Tasha at Richmond council for permissions.
After the remaning Street-O races, look out for this summer’s Park Series which is coming together nicely – expect similar courses to the Night-Os but in more open parks and in the light so everything is a bit faster and furiouser.
Matthias Mahr – Organiser / Planner.
Long Champions – Matthias Mahr + Iris Lueke
