Teddington Street-O Results

*Update 17/11 – Series Results added*

Last night saw the third race in our Street Orienteering Series, courtesy of Dave Wright and Fran Kenden. You can find the Race Results and Series Results (after 3 races).

Dave says: “I hope you enjoyed your visit to the various corners of Teddington, and, for some of you, Ham as well.  I only expected about 60 entries but in fact there were 82, with a total of 96 participants (due to pairing).

My plan was always to tempt faster runners to cross the river to Ham but for clearing the course on the Teddington side to in fact be the better strategy.  Pleasingly the winner, Steve Clelland, did not venture over to Ham. An additional planning issue was to ensure that those with local knowledge would not gain by venturing off the map to cross the river at Kingston Bridge.  I’d discounted the possibility, mentioned by one participant, of swimming across!

Thank you to Nick, Alan and Fran for their invaluable assistance.”

Our next race will be on the other side of the river in West Hampstead on Tuesday 11 December and details will be available shortly.

Organiser’s comments

Thanks to everyone who came along to the event last night for what were perfect conditions for an autumn night event. I found out that I had put the last control in slightly the wrong place, 15 metres from the correct pit I had taped a few weeks back so apologies and hope that did not ruin anyone’s run!

Thanks also to my very able team of volunteers on the night, Todd and Don for helping set up registration, Paul C., Paul S. and Steve for helping at the start and Sarah and Pete for sorting out the SI with myself. Also to Sue for offering to help. Hope to see you all at the next Night orienteering event which is Tuesday 27th November on Wimbledon Common.

SLOW Night-O Series 2018-1019

London Bridge Street-O Results

Thank you to our friends at London Orienteering Klubb for organising a great Street-O around London Bridge (familiar to many from this year’s City Race)!

I’m sure many of you will have already seen the Results which include a SLOW 1-2-3 led by Ed Catmur. SLOW also had the fastest woman with Vinh Hoang (organiser of September’s race) taking the title.

Series Results will be published after Race 3 in Teddington on 13 November – hope to see many of you there.

London City Race 2018 Results

Results from the London City Race 2018, including the Rotherhithe Urban Middle on Friday evening, the 11th London City Race in the City and South Bank on Saturday, and LOK’s race in Bloomsbury on Sunday, are now available. Apologies for the late delivery of the Friday results, which were due to logistical issues with venue access caused by searching for an overdue participant in the race.

Friday Evening: Urban Middle, Rotherhithe

Saturday: The 11th London City Race

Results updated Tuesday. Several competitors have been disqualified after being seen crossing out of bounds roads or ‘uncrossable’ barriers. If they wish to challenge this they should contact the Organiser –

Sunday: Bloomsbury (organised by LOK)

Result queries? Please contact London City Race coordinator Alan Leakey – for Friday or Saturday queries, or see the LOK page for Sunday.

West Norwood Street-O Results

Here are the Results from the first Street Orienteering race of the season held last night around West Norwood.

Many thanks to Vinh-Phuong Hoang for planning one of the most fiendish courses of the last few years, keeping runners on their toes the entire time! In the end, James Fraser won by a whisker with the first 5 men separated by only 16 points, while Rebecca Dal Bon was top woman.

Vinh says: “I wanted to bring people to an area which we haven’t orienteered at much before. Hopefully people liked it. I planned the course to force people to run up as many hills as possible and hopefully people were compensated with good views as a result, particularly over Central London. Many thanks to everyone who helped out and the pub for having us. We had a few new faces today- perhaps we’ll see you at the next races too.”

Vinh will bring uncollected maps to the next race, organised by our friends at London Orienteering Klubb around London Bridge on Tuesday 9 October (details to follow). There is also lost property of one male black belt, which you can claim by emailing me as below.

Results from MTB-O Mogador, September 2018

Here are the results from the second event of 2018’s MTB-O series, held on Sunday 9 September around Mogador in Surrey.

Results and Splits

James Leach won the event, in a very close race with Ian Cartwright. Despite both scoring 415 points after time penalties, James’s time was quicker which edged Ian into second place.

Rachael Drew was the first-placed woman with 315 points.

Thanks to the organiser Jane Robinson.

The final event in the 2018 series is scheduled for Sunday 18 November.

Results from Barnes Common Park Race 2018

Organiser’s comments

Thanks to everyone for participating in Sunday’s GLOSS race at Wimbledon Common in the sun. I hope everyone enjoyed the courses on offer. It was nice to see everyone coming back happy despite the long waits at registration – apologies for those while I grappled with the software. Thanks for your patience and to those who stepped in to help.

There are a lot of other groups to thank:

  • Wimbledon Rangers Office – for allowing us to use this wonderful area and the reminder about nesting birds which I was glad to see was noted by many participants.
  • The Telegraph Inn, Putney – for letting us use space outside for registration – a great base in the centre of the area which is hard to find elsewhere.
  • Matthias, Dmitry, Sue, Nikolay and Ed for helping out on the course with starts and controls.
  • Heather, Gordon, Mike, Gavin and Richard for jumping in to help at registration.
  • Catherine and Paul of LOK for organising the series and Angus and Gordon for helping with the website stuff.

I’m sure there are others who I’ve missed out but look forward to seeing you all soon at the next GLOSS event this Sunday at Beddington Park.
