British Championships
After a sunny individual day on Penhale Sands on the Saturday, the weather turned nasty for the relays at the same place on the Sunday. Fortunately the club tent had not blown away overnight & we were able to resuscitate it in the morning. It was welcome shelter for our 11 teams. Our Women’s Premier team (Amy, Vicky, Rachael) finished a good 6th. We are now 5th in the Women’s UK Relay League, just 3 points behind 2nd. We had 3 teams in the Men’s Premier, finishing in 16th, 22nd & 24th. Our first team was Ed (who brought us back in 2nd place on the first leg!), Ralph (making his premier debut) & Jeff (making his SLOW relay debut). We are now 18th in the Men’s UK Relay League.
Our W45 team (Sarah B, Jackie, Diane) yet again won the trophy. Diane held off Bristol by 15 seconds. Jackie was our fastest, on the middle leg. Our Women’s short team were 17th (with a good run from Sarah C). Our top M50 team (Paul S, Alan, Andy) were a brilliant 1st, beating the likes of the army & Southdowns. Our 2nd team were 6th, including a good first leg by Richard C. Our M45 team (AJ, Don, John) were 2nd behind a very strong Bristol team – John had a great run on last leg. We also had 2 teams in the Ad Hoc, which was the most popular course! SLOWly Does It (Gordon, Adrian, Chris W) were 10th, & SLOW as Snails were 31st.
Watch out for details about future team events coming up: June 4 – Harvester Relays, June 19 – South-East Relays, June 25 – North Downs Way Relay, October 16 – Compass Sport Cup Final. And maybe the Scottish Relays on May 29.
