Southwark Park

Southwark Park – Results

Planner’s Comments

I hope you all enjoyed the final park race of the season. It was great to see a big group of orienteers having a drink and a chat on the benches outside and the pub if slightly overwhelmed was a great base with our own private room. In the end we had over 100 competitors including a recent WOC (World Orienteering Champs) competitor from Paraguay and also a member of the Spanish Orienteering Federation, as well as a number of other nationalities.

Southwark really is the perfect venue for a summer park race what with the “interesting enough” park itself combined with the surrounding housing, making for a fun and varied environment. On the Long Course I tried to give you a good number of route choices (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 6-7, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15 and 19-20 all had at least 2 quite different options); I don’t actually know which route was quicker in each case but hopefully it kept you thinking most of the way around.

The Long course was maybe a little longer than I had intended (I was shooting for a 24-25 minute winning time) but as it’s the final race I hope you enjoyed getting your money’s worth.

If you liked the Park Races tell your friends! We’ll be back next summer. In the meantime of course SLOW’s next big event is the mighty London City Race in September – not to be missed – and then no doubt we’ll be back with winter night, street, forest and some MTBO races, details for all of which you’ll find on the site in due course. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
