Planners comments
Although I have lived in the area for 3 years I’d never visited Cannizaro Park before I agreed to organise/ plan here for the park race. Tucked away south of Wimbledon Commons, it’s such a peaceful and beautiful park. Despite its small size, it’s a planner’s dream parkland area rich in features, with a lovely mix of open and wooded land. The intricate walled garden, fences and path network in the southern section made for some fun route choices. Hopefully that kept your brain working hard!
Feedback on the night was very positive for both courses, which I’m very glad to hear. Sorry if you were tricked by which gate opening to use at the start – I perhaps should have made that clearer earlier on.
Congratulations to Michael (24:52) and Abi (32:52) as fastest male and female finishers on the Long. Claudiu (M12) was fastest on the short course in 20:59. Speaking to the family at the start I believe they were a family of orienteers from Romania visiting London on holiday – I hope you enjoyed this orienteering tourism!
Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible. Thanks in particular to park series coordinator James, Gordon for SIAC and equipment, and Don for help with map updates.
