Thanks for everyone for coming out to Westhumble for a beautiful sunny Sunday of biking. I hope you enjoyed the course. I decided that the area there needed a 1:25k map scale, as there is a lot of detail on the ground to help make some route choices. I also hoped that putting the start near the station, and with later time would help get some newcomers to the event, and it seems we got a few!
The course was set so that there were areas of similar point values, (heading either north or south from the start) and that I expected most people would make loops of varying sizes, depending on their ability, to get back to the start/finish. Other controls were set in such a way that the shortest route was not necessarily the easiest route! We were very lucky for dry and sunny conditions in the week leading up to the event, making the trails quite fast, if not a little bumpy! Nobody managed to clear the course, but, overall distance if cleared would be about 34k with about 750m of elevation gain!
Thanks again to the Stepping Stones pub for helping out, and the great volunteers, Jane, Tessa, James, Nicki, Sabine, Tom, Steve and Irene for helping out!
