Officials’ Comments

Organiser – Charlie Turner

This year’s OK Nuts entry numbers were greater than expected and although 6 days ago we ordered many extra maps for printing on all the courses, we were unable to accept some very late entries as there were no more maps. Some competitors entered a different course to what they preferred and may have found the forest much tougher than expected. Some people were disappointed that there were no maps left and decided not to enter. These are all good reasons for entering before the first closing date, which is usually about 24 hours before printing begins.

On the day everything went well with all aspects of the club’s organisation and a big thank you must go to Pete and Vince who spent much time getting your courses challenging and fair. Particular thanks must go to Gordon who was a key person in today’s event, being our SI guru and holder of all of our equipment. The club could not hold an event without its volunteers and today we had over 35 roles that needed filling. Some people took on two roles, five club members helped but did not run and two Guildford members collected in all the road signs – all this help made organising very straight forward and easy.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s OK Nuts in the Surrey Hills, where we will be returning to Leith Hill Place. When I recently walked through the area the were no bilberries! Hopefully a food trader will be there.

Controller – Pete Jones (SN)

The most uttered word today was bilberry….

The map showed the bilberries as white, indicating that an elite runner could maintain 80% of max speed. For the most areas this was ok, but for older (and short?) competitors it proved tough in parts. The recent growth of the bilberries meant winning times were a bit longer than I had expected.

For those of you who had 192(longer courses), this moved slightly during the day for safety reasons as felling was taking place nearby.

Hopefully you all enjoyed the courses.
