Planner’s Comments
Well that was damp!
We’d optimistically hoped that the forecast of “a lot of rain” wouldn’t play out, and in the end we did get at least 10 minutes when it wasn’t pouring*. But luckily it didn’t put many people off – we had 89 competitors start the course (and most completed it!).
The course planning was made all the more challenging (fun?!) by the incredible rate at which the park greenery is growing this year – a tree accessible one week would be surrounded by ferns the next. We really enjoyed finding features and routes that would still be visible by the time you all set off, although we admit that the “bridge” mid way through the long route was pretty unrecognisable by the time we put the control out…but that’s what makes it fun – right?!
Huge congratulations in particular to those who took on their first orienteering course yesterday – we hope you’ll be back for more!
We want to remind all competitors of the importance of respecting the beautiful areas we get to run in. It should go without saying that looking after the wildlife and greenery while racing are more important than getting a quick time – please keep this in mind when you’re next out.
* This is against a backdrop of record highs – a day after the hottest global temperature on record
