Streatham Common Park Race Results

Streatham Common continued our run of very warm park races in this series. Mixed with a couple of hills I was definitely needing that post race drink by the time I finished!

It feels like this series has flown by, with only two races left to go. The series victors aren’t quite set just yet, with a battle between Michael Crone and James Haynes for the top spot, and between Vinh and Kezia for the women’s.

Thanks to Michael Tsang for organising, everyone who helped and the Bull for hosting us.

Planner’s comments

Thanks to everyone for coming out to Streatham despite the heat. This was my first time planning a park race, building on my previous experience with StreetO.

As a former elite sprint orienteer in Hong Kong, I was delighted to have Streatham Common, The Rookery, and Norwood Grove available. They provided the perfect canvas for a high-quality sprint course. I aimed to utilize the varied terrain features to test different skills, including macro route choice, coarse navigation, sharp turns, and sudden speed adjustments. The post-race discussions confirmed that these challenges worked exactly as intended, which was incredibly rewarding to see.

A huge thank you to James, Don, Gordon, and Matthias for mentoring and supporting me throughout the process; I learned a lot from you all. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped collect controls after the race, and to The Bull for hosting us.
