Barnes Common Night-O

The third race of South London Orienteers’ five event 2019-2020 Night-O Series takes place on Barnes Common, south-west London, on Tuesday 28th January 2020. The race centre is The Spencer, conveniently located right on the edge of the Common.

The Night-O series are public races – all are welcome. Please RSVP to the event via Facebook (link above) to let us know you are coming – you can also see who else is coming and post questions. If you are not on Facebook, please let the organiser Don McKerrow (email details at bottom of this post) know you are coming  so that the correct number of maps are printed.

Race Centre

The race will be based at The Spencer on Lower Richmond Road, SW15 1HJ. The pub serves great food and drink, and there will be the usual opportunity to revisit route choices with other runners.

Getting there

The pub is a 13 minute walk from Barnes station, and under 20 minutes walk from Putney and Putney Bridge stations. Bus routes 22, 265 & 378 pass the pub, stop ‘Commondale’.

Race Details

The entry fee is £5, or £3 for SLOW members, students and juniors. The race will use SIAC contactless punching. SIAC cards are available to hire if you do not have your own. A small number of headlamps are also available to borrow free of charge but you need to email the organiser in advance to reserve one.

Courses close 20:30

These courses are offered:

  • Long: approximately 5km, quite challenging
  • Short: approximately 2.5km, quite challenging

The Long course will have two, timed out, road crossings so is not suitable for under-16’s. The Short course has no road crossings so is suitable for all.

All competitors take part at their own risk.

Results will be available on the SLOW website shortly after the event.
