Invitation

South London Orienteers are delighted to invite you to CompassSport Cup & Trophy Races on February 18th.

These are annual competitions contested by UK Orienteering Clubs.

This Cup Match is contested by five clubs: Happy Herts, Thames Valley, Southdowns, Southern Navigators and ourselves.

This Trophy Match, for smaller clubs, is contested by Dartford, London, Saxons, Southampton, Guildford, Mole Valley, Berkshire and Basingstoke & District.

Car Parking will be at the Fairmile Inn, Portsmouth Rd, Cobham KT11 1BW, on firm, flat grass fields in front of the pub. The Inn faces the Portsmouth Road and is clearly visible when approaching. There will not be any orienteering signposting.:

BUS: The 715 stops right outside the pub but only runs every 1½ hours on a Sunday.

TRAIN:

  • Oxshott and Cobham & Stoke d’Abernon Stations are each 2.3 miles away. Note trains on this line are only every hour on a Sunday with a shuttle service to/from Surbiton operating before midday (i.e. no direct trains from Waterloo). If you come from Oxshott station you must not cross the competition area.
  • Hersham Station is 3.6 miles, with trains every half an hour.

Entry

Entry for the main set of courses (see below) is via club captains. Anyone under 16 on the day of the race should run 8A, 8B, 9A or 9B.

There will also be light green (which is also suitable for under-16s) and yellow courses, please enter directly at SiEntries.

CompassSport courses 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8A,8B,9A,9B,10.

Control units will be SIAC (“touch-free” punching) enabled but with a punching start.

Terrain

Esher Commons offers a wide variety of terrain. Together with the fact that this event uses a car park at the opposite end of the area from that used for SLOW’s event in October 2022 only competitors on the longest courses will find areas of familiarity.

There will be two starts, and start times will be 10:30 – 12:30.

If you start it is important that you subsequently download your timing card.

Even though the COVID situation has reduced, it is important that we are seen to take the protocols seriously, before, during and after racing so please read and abide by the COVID  Safe Orienteering (available from the British Orienteering website).

We will have professional first aid in attendance. The nearest Hospital (A&E) is in Woking postacode GU22 7HS (8.5 miles).
