Peckham Rye Park Race Results
The last time SLOW used Peckham Rye was back in 2014, so it sounded like this was the first time many of you had orienteered there. The weather ended up being very kind to us resulting in a pleasant evening for a run. The course was a more technical than I was expecting, so kudos to Neil for finding some interesting places to put controls.
Michael Crone has the lead in the series scores after four races, but James Haynes looks set to bag an unbeatable 500 if he wins two more!
Thanks to Neil for organising, everyone who helped and the Herne Tavern for hosting.

First of all, a big thank you to all who took part on Tuesday, exactly 100 on the Long course and we were close to running out of Short maps. We were all rewarded with a very pleasant evening, weather wise.
Peckham Rye has not been used for orienteering since 2014. It has a varied central area, consisting of small, wooded areas, a lake, ornamental and water gardens and children’s play areas with a multitude of small paths interconnecting them all. This central area is surrounded by recreational fields. My aim for planning the courses was to have a number of technical controls, as much route choice as possible, whilst still achieving the required distance. I think this was achieved judging by the number of positive comments at Download.
I accept that there is an area to the west of the map that needs updating – this area had been barricaded off for four weeks due to the bank holiday Gala and despite my best intentions, I was unable to get a clear view of the area from the upper deck of the bus. I hope it didn’t affect anyone’s run.
As Organiser I would like to thank the following:-
The Herne Tavern – for the use of their ‘barn’ and the large beer garden area.
The SLOW volunteers, without whom the event would not be possible – Gordon, James G, Pete, Don, Roger, James H, Kristin, Clement, Lea, David, Alex, Vinh, Steve and Gavin.
Lost property – rear mobile phone cover – contact organiser.
