OK Nuts 2024 – Hankley Common

Link to enter this event

South London Orienteers invites you to run on Hankley Common on Sunday 10th November 2024. We are putting on a National and South East League event, our annual OK Nuts Trophy. The OK Nuts is our top forest orienteering race of the year.

This year the event is also being held in memory of Chris Morris, a founder of SLOW, who passed away earlier this year. Chris Morris – a Tribute .

Trophies

There are four OK Nuts Trophies.

  • Men:        Black
  • Women:    Brown
  • M16:        Blue
  • W16:        Short Blue

Terrain

Hankley Common is south-west of Guildford.

The Common is an Army Land area with a mixture of fast low cut heather (after fires last year), thicker heather in the southern half and a mixture of largely fast running forest areas over a contoured fast runnable area. It was last used by us in 2019 for the OK Nuts Trophy.

OK Nuts 2019 Routegadget (A4 maps – there is a separate record for the longer courses.)

The map was produced in 2019 by Dave Peel using LIDAR data and has been updated by Roger Maher in 2023. The scale for all courses is 1:10,000 with a contour interval of 5m.

The land is often used for filming. It was the historic site of James Bond’s family home, Skyfall Lodge. See, for example, https://www.flickr.com/photos/vauxhalluk/6987773697/in/dateposted/
